East Midlands & Nottingham Nursery Training Academy

As an established early years provider, we know first-hand the important part training has to play in the success of the business. Regular and targeted training and development opportunities provide our team with the skills and knowledge they need to deliver the highest quality teaching, learning and experiences for the children.

Back in 2018, we recognised that the level and quality of training we received from external providers did not match what we desired for our team and business. With this in mind, we set up the Cherubs Nurseries Academy. The Academy provides in-house paediatric first aid and fire marshall training for our team alongside the ICQ Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator). In addition, we run various workshops and training days to enhance the knowledge and skills of our workforce to ensure we continue to provide excellence in early years childcare.

We are based in Bulwell, Nottingham, but also have dedicated training spaces across a Nottingham nursery and the East Midlands, so the opportunity for face-to-face learning, development and coaching is never far away.

Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. As an apprentice, you will:
  • Be an employee earning a wage and getting holiday pay
  • Work alongside experienced staff
  • Gain job-specific skills
  • Get time for training and study related to your role (at least 20% of your normal working hours)

Before being enrolled onto an Apprenticeship at Cherubs Nurseries, you will undergo a 3-month probation (which may be extended). You will be expected to complete our Apprenticeship Training Pack during this time. This provides you with all the necessary knowledge you need, most of which will assist you in your Apprenticeship. Our Apprenticeship training pack contains various sections around working in Early Years and has activities that are completed as “homework”. You will be supported to complete this by your Nursery Manager (whom you will have dedicated time with each month), Mentor and Buddy, but a level of independent study is required to complete the training pack successfully. You must complete this to demonstrate that you are competent and can undertake an Apprenticeship.

Level 2

  • Length of Apprenticeship: 12 months
  • Hours: You will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, but can opt-in to work more on top of this if you wish.

Level 3

  • Length of Apprenticeship: 18 months
  • Hours: You will be required to work a minimum of 30 hours per week, but can opt-in to work more on top of this if you wish.

Both Apprenticeships require both on and off-the-job learning, including training, which may take place in-person or virtually. It is important you are fully committed to completing the Apprenticeship and put in the time (both in and outside of work) to ensure it is completed to a high standard. When it comes to assessment, your knowledge and understanding will be tested through written work, verbal discussions and an End Point Assessment (EPA), which includes a professional discussion/presentation and exam.

Utilise our expertise or training spaces
From time to time, we can facilitate external groups or one of our Nottingham nurseries who would like to use our space for their own training or meetings. In addition to this, we sometimes have space for other early years providers to utilise available spaces on our monthly Paediatric First Aid courses.
