What a Wonderful World – Teaching Environmental Education at Cherubs

World Environment Day is the United Nations day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action to protect our environment – this year being celebrated on 5th June.

At Cherubs Nurseries, we place a high level of importance on our business’s sustainability and our impact on the world around us. We must ignite an understanding of the world and how to protect it in all the children we care for and the people who work here. We do so by teaching environmental education.

We have a continually evolving corporate, social responsibility (CSR) statement and ambitious plans for the future – all to contribute to a greener, more sustainable world.

What do we do at Cherubs Nurseries?

  1. Observe “Meat Free Monday” at all nurseries, all year around.
  2. Where possible, encourage thorough recycling at all nurseries.
  3.  Working towards a paperless business, making great strides each year towards this.
  4. Host regular community clean ups, supporting a clean and safe natural environment.
  5. Minimal purchases of single-use plastics from paper plates to balloons and plastic bags.
  6. Use non-concussive taps where possible to limit water usage.
  7. Purchase from reputable and sustainable suppliers, furnishing our nurseries with things
    made to last!
  8.  Look to maximise green spaces at our nurseries, working creatively to keep our natural
    outdoor spaces.
  9. Highlight green practices within our parent community encouraging the use of reusable
    cups and sustainable nappies.
  10. Promote green practices in our learning and curriculum, with regular Forest School
    sessions at all nurseries

What can you do?

  1. Think twice before shopping. From using pre-loved websites like Vinted to shopping
    locally.
  2. Ditch plastic and switch to reusable. From using reusable shopping bags to buying
    products with less packaging.
  3.  Choose organic – a simple switch to free-range eggs has a huge impact.
  4.  Ditch fast fashion and animal-based textiles.
  5. Be water wise. Whether that’s fixing leaky taps or choosing a low-flow and low-water
    appliance.
  6. Drive less, drive green – walk anywhere you can!
  7. Take action, use your resources and voice to make a difference.
  8. Reduce food waste – think about freezing extra dinner portions or batch-cooking to avoid
    food wastage.
  9.  Use sustainable cleaning and beauty products – do your research and read labels to opt
    for sustainable alternatives.
  10.  Educate your children about the world around you and how to contribute to a greener
    world.

At Cherubs we understand that children are the future and so teaching environmental education is a responsibility we take very seriously.
