Looking forward to 2021 – an update from Managing Director, Susan Mills

This year, we have continued to work hard and do our best – guided by our vision, values and brand promises. Whilst much of our time has been exhausted by covid-19, our team have still found time to do some pretty great things. For the 5th year running, four of our nurseries were listed in the Top 20 Nurseries in the East Midlands, as a result of consistently high parent reviews on DayNurseries.co.uk. Well done to Cherubs Ladybrook, Cherubs Longdale, Cherubs Pleasley and Cherubs Wynndale. Cherubs Edwinstowe was shortlisted for Community Nursery of the Year at the Nursery Management Today Awards too – a wonderful achievement.

Despite covid-19, we have continued to invest in and improve our nurseries. Back in March we began our £250k investment in Cherubs Kimberley and have recently completed Phase 1. Our talented Estates and Facilities Team have worked incredibly hard the interior of Cherubs Kimberley has been totally re-fitted. We have a new vision for where we want our nurseries to go (combining practicality with modern, calm and thoughtfully curated spaces) and I’m pleased to say this really has been realised. In Spring 2021, we will move onto Phase 2 which covers the outdoor environment. The nursery really will be totally transformed and I can’t wait to see the finished result. We have had some wonderful feedback from parents, children and staff which is great to hear and I can’t wait to welcome all parents into the nursery to have a good look around at the inspirational spaces we have created for their children. In 2021, we aim to pick up any outstanding projects that have been halted due to covid-19. This includes our outdoor renovation at Cherubs Ruddington and some additional projects at other nurseries within our group. Rest assured that we are committed to ensuring all our nurseries are safe, exciting and well-looked after.

I can’t write this review without mentioning our nurseries commitment to Community Life. We have a vision to make the communities we serve better places to live, work and grow up in. This year has been no different and we have been able to support a variety of causes and charities including our 2020 charity partner, YoungMinds who we will continue to support throughout 2021. From donating much needed PPE to our friends in the NHS to collecting over 150 bags for Mind (the Mental Health Charity) and Christmas donations to our local Food Banks, Soup Kitchens and Community Projects. I am so proud of what we continue to give back and we really couldn’t do this without the support of our parent community – thank you.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the team – all 230 of them. In a sector that is continually undervalued and underfunded we continue to work hard, support each other and have lots of fun. The team work so hard to provide the highest possible standards in childcare and do so with such passion, enthusiasm and drive. The endless smilies, laughter and singing throughout our nurseries are testament to the exciting days at nursery packed full of new experiences and activities full of wonder. If you’re thinking of starting a career in childcare (or have been in the industry for years) there really has never been a more exciting time to join us. On the subject of saying thank you, I must share a message of appreciation with our parent community. We know the effects this year has had on our parents. We have always done our best to do right by our parents and actively support our families at every opportunity. Our parent community really have supported us throughout the year and we are incredibly grateful for their on-going support during this time.

And now, as 2020 comes to a close we start to think about what the new year will bring. In our 28th year of business, there is no doubt that covid-19 will continue to be at the forefront of our service delivery for some time. However, we are excited at the prospect of moving forward and transitioning into new ways of working and doing business in a post-covid world. We have huge plans for the future and ones I am committed to fulfilling. It’s time to re-imagine childcare and ensure that Cherubs Nurseries remains the first choice for childcare across Nottinghamshire and beyond.
